Domodossola
The town of Domodossola is located within the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and has a population of 18,219 inhabitants.
Standing at an elevation of 272 metres above sea level, it lies 160 kilometres north east of Turin, the regional capital of Piedmont. Pretty as the town is, it's best known as the starting point for the scenic Vigezzina-Centovalli train ride to Locarno in Switzerland. |
Also, of great importance is the Sacro Monte di Domodossola that overlooks the town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003 along with 8 other similar sites in Piedmont and Lombardy.
Of less importance but a nice piece of trivia; Domodossola is the word Italians use for D in their phonetic alphabet when speaking on the phone. So rather than Alpha for A or Bravo for B, it's Ancona, Bologna, Como, Domodossola, Empoli and so on.
